Madeira Archipelago

The first business card of Madeira island is the city of Funchal, capital of the island of Madeira, in a beautiful natural amphitheater overlooking the sea. This is the greatest firework! Used in popular festivals or other celebrations, it is in the Night of St. Sylvester that the fireworks reach its peak announcing loudly the entrance on a New Year.

Madeira is very rugged, with the highest points being Pico Ruivo (1862m), Pico da Torre (1851m) and Pico do Areeiro (1818m), without mentionning the numerous mountains through the famous "holes" (tunnels) by itself, a strong emotion.

The north coast is dominated by high cliffs. Discovering Paul da Serra through the Laurissilva endemic forest, classified as World Natural Heritage by UNESCO or walking through the traditional Levadas (water channels), leads you to the discovery of the most beautiful natural landscapes of the interior of this island with lots of breathtaking places.

It is imperative to taste Madeiran gastronomy, such as the bolo do Caco, the Espetada (made with beef cubes in a laurel skewer and grilled on wood or charcoal), the Black Swordfish Filet or the Bife de Atum (tuna steak). You can not forget to taste the delicious Grilled Lapas (Patellas) in their various forms of confection. The discovery of the island's tropical fruit flavor is a pleasant surprise.

On the small island of Porto Santo, there is a unique story associated to the navigators Tristão Vaz Teixeira, Bartolomeu Perestrelo, João Gonçalves Zarco and Christopher Columbus.

Here the tourist is invited to bathe in the turquoise waters, on a beach of fine golden sand that extends for 9 km.

Meet an island of tranquility!
